SKMCH & RC is a comprehensive and modem cancer care facility fully equipped and staffed to treat all types of cancer. As pan of its mission statement the hospital is committed to training medical and allied health professionals and is recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan for training in a number of d sciplines. The hospital has a team of UK- and US-tra>ned physicians who provide state of the art diagnostic, treatment and support facilities to its cancer patient. SKMCH&RC is pleased to invite applications for the following positions:
Interventional Radiology Fellowship One year clinical fellowship in interventional radiology with major streams covering Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR) and Interventional Neuroradiology commenong from January 2012. The selected individual is expected to prov.de clinical service in the area of VIR and Interventional Neuroradiology, !eam pre and post-procedural care in addition to the actual procedural skills and provide on-going support and consultation to clinical services. The program is based at the Department of Radiology and is supervised by our fiify-trained interventional radiologists. Eligibility Criteria:

>    MBBS

>    FRCR/FCPS.

>    Minimum 4 years of approved Raddogy training experience. Fellowship Training Programme in Infectious Diseases

Applcatons are invited for a two year fellowship in the field of Infectious Diseases. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan has recently recognized Infectious Disease as a sub-specialty of Internal Med cine and SKMCH&RC is a CPSP-recognized training site in Infectious Diseases. Graduates of the programme will be expected to take the subspecialty examination leading to the FCPS [Infectious Disease]. Training will be imparted in clinical infectious diseases and will involve outpatient and inpatient settings as wel as rotations in microbiology Three infectious disease specialists are on staff at the hospital and the institution sees a very wide range of in’ectons. both in normal and in immunocompromised hosts. Elective rotations to other quality institutions will be encouraged. Fellows wfio perform very well dunng their training may be offered an additional year of training at an affiliated institution overseas. Eligibility Criteria:

>    FCPS in Internal Meddne. Fellowship in Paediatric Oncology

Applications are nvited for a three year Hospita’ felowship in Paediatric Oncology. The Hospital sees approximately 300 new paediatric cancer pabents annually, and has a multi-disciplinary approach to cancer treatment. All Paediatric cancer patients are treated by teams of medical, radiation and surgical oncologists. The hospital is. therefore, ideally suited for a postgraduate training programme in Paediatric Oncology We offe’ a unique learning experience that will prepare the selected candidates to become we I trained, highly qualified paediatric oncologists of international standard in addition, there s a strong emphasis cn research, with a number of cancer treatment trials in progress at any time. Felows will be trained in various aspects of Paediatric Oncology including in- and out-patient management of complex cancer pabents. management of oncologic emergencies, radiation oncology, cancer radiology, supportive care and research methodology. The felowship training period is 3 years.

Felows who perform very well during ther training may be offered an additional year of training at an affiliated institution in the US or the UK. which will be arranged by SKMCH & RC.

Felows who successfully complete the required training, including training abroad, will be eligible for appointment at a consultant level at SKMCH & RC.

Fellowship in Medical Oncology

Felowship n Medical Onco’ogy is a planned expansion of an established Medical Oncology trainmg programme recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan The fellowship training period is 3 years, leading to FCPS in Medcal Oncdogy on successful completion of training and passing the college examination. Close to 5000 new cancer patients are seen annually. There is special emphasis on multidisdplinary approach to management of cancer with site specialist teams comprising of medical, radiation, and surgical oncdogists, specialty physicians, radiologists and pathologists. This offers a unique training experience for the trainees to learn and understand all aspects of management of solid tumours and haematological malignancies, which will prepare them to become well trained, highly qualified oncologists of international standards in addton. there is a strong emphasis on research, with a number of cancer treatment trials in progressatanytime.

Felows. who successfully complete the required training, succeed in obtaining the FCPS in Medical Oncology and have the requisie overseas experience, will be efgibte for appointment at a consultant level at SKMCH &RC.

>    The training post(s) is for a period of 3 years.

>    The selected candidate^) wi rotate through various site specialist oncology teams over 3 years to alow exposure to the whole range of oncology. They will be supervised by consultant oncologists during each attachment with regular appraisals to ensure adequate progress in training.

>    The selected candidate^) will be involved in patient care m outpatient dinics, inpatient floors, and in the chemotherapy bay.

>    They wll participate in an on can rota for assessment and management of patients presenting to the emergency assessment room.

>    They will be expected to participate in the academic activities of the department mduding presentations, research, audit, and teaching junior dodors and nurses.

>    FCPS in internal medicine Consultant Physician (Internal Medicine)

The Hospital is looking for highly motivated arvd committed indwJuals to undertake positions as Locum consultant physicians. The physidans will be expected to provide Internal Medicine expertise in the day to day management of sick cancer patients coming to the Emergency Room and those being admitted.

The physicians will also have the opportunity to collaborate with Oncologists towards a common goal of improving the outcome of cancer treatment at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre. The Physidan will be expected to participate adively in teaching and training program for junior dodors in the department of Internal Medicine and also liaise dosely with Surgeons and Physicians in other spedalties and staff withn the hospital. Essential requirements in seleded candidates will indude the folowing-

>    M3BS (should have passed all professional examinations at 1 st attempt obtaining at least 59% marks in Final Professional).

>    One year house job (preferably in medicine and allied specialties).

>    FCPSpart-l (in Medione)OR MRCP Part I.

Fellowship in Body Imaging

Appl cations are invited for a one year fellowship program in Body Imaging commencing from January 2012. The seleded individual will be exposed to complex and challenging general & oncdogy cases at two sites. The Department of Radiology and its satellite centre are equipped with 1,5T & open MRI systems (DTI & spectroscopy), multi detedor CTs induding two 64-channel units fu’ly cardiac capable, an interventional suite. High-end ultrasound, gamma cameras and CR system induding mammography. Our PET-CT scanning system is also now functional. The hospital information system and Ftadiology information system (RIS) rely on PACS in this film-less department. The fellow may also participate in Breast imaging induding MR and intervention. Research is encouraged and the Fellow will be provided with proteded research time; involvement in all the mulbdtsdplinary meeting would be mandatory. EligibiljtyCriteria:

Applcations are invited for four year residency position in hematology, duly approved by the Colege of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan, starting January 01. 2012. SKMCH & RC is a comprehensive and modem cancer care facility wrJi an excellent track record since its inception. The Department of Pathology is fully equipped and staffed to diagnose and follow all types of cancer and non- cancerpathotogies The Department of Pathology has a team of UK- and US-trained pathologists who provide state- of- the- art diagnostic facilities to their patients The hematology section routinely deals with CBCs, peripheral smears, bone marrow trephine biopsies and aspirates, analytic ftowcytometry, coagulation profiles and transfusion medicine. The department has very strong and busy services in the areas of Histopathology. Cytopathotogy. Chemical pathology. Speda! Chemistry. Microbiology. Blood bank and Transfusion medidne services and molecular biology. These areas are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed by quality conscious technologists and supervisors. The department participates in College of American Pathology (CAP) proficiency testing.

A variety of malignant and non-malignant hematological cases are seen on daily basis. An average of 2000 bone marrow trephine biopsies. 1200 ftowcytometric analyses, 260,000 CBCs. over 39.000 blood bank proceduresand about4 500 coagulation profiles are evaluated annually. These cases do not only come from the in-house physician referral services, but are also greatty contributed by outside referrals through our nationwide collection centers.

The resident is expeded to partidpate in routine sign-outs which will grve them exposure to a wide vanety of hematological disorders. Special emphasis will be given to areas where majority of trainees do not get formal training. These areas include flowcytometry. molecular hematology, mmunohistochemistry and aphaeresis procedures. The resident wi be given an active rde in the stem cell transplantation program. The department of pathology places emphasis on intradepartmental and interdepartmental consultation skills development. Residents are required to coodud lymphoma and leukemia conferences in multdisdpfinary settings. Hematology/ oncdogy dinics and inpatient rotations are part of the training program. Participation in research activities is encouraged. Eligibility Criteria:

>    Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in operations management in a Hospital.
